As the end of May rapidly approaches, many local schools, those still in existence and those not, will be looking forward to their annual Alumni dinners. At those affairs, old friends and classmates will gather together to catch up on news as many attending will have been out of touch for years.
Undoubtedly at some point in the evening, the conversation will turn to the many daring and dashing exploits from the athletic fields, some embellished with the passing of the years and some not. Patty Kennedy Wilmoth of Seaman has been working diligently to prepare for the Class of 1964 50-year reunion in Seaman and came across a pair of photographs of Seaman championship basketball teams, not embellished but true champions.
The 1964 Seaman varsity basketball squad, under the direction of Coach John Smart (a member of the North Adams Athletic Hall of Fame) won the last Adams County Tournament ever played, the same team that had been the reserve champions two years earlier. The league and the name was changed in 1965 and the rest is history. Reminisce and enjoy.
