It was another battle of county rivals on Tuesday night at North Adams High School as the Green Devils played host to the Peebles Indians. The game turned out to be a low-scoring affair as Beau Justice scored 31 points to lead the Indians to a 45-30 win, their 12th of the season against just 2 losses (6-1 in the Southern Hills Athletic Conference).
The opening eight minutes was not destined to be sold later as an offensive highlight show as the two teams combined for just 7 points, 5 of those belonging to Peebles, two baskets by Justice included. The lone North Adams score of the first quarter was a bucket by Devin Gardner.
As he has done so often in his high school career, Justice went on one of his scoring sprees in the second period, scoring 15 of his team’s 16 points. North Adams got a pair of baskets from Hank Sparks, but when the halftime break rolled around, the Indians had stretched their advantage to 21-10.
In the third quarter, it was Sparks handling all the offensive duties for North Adams, scoring all 9 of his team’s points. Justice added 6 more to his growing total and after three periods, the Indians still were comfortably in front 31-19 in an unusually low scoring night for a varsity boys game.
In the final quarter of action, the Devils got 6 points from Isaiah Anderson, while the Indians were a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line. When the final horn sounded, the Indians had garnered a tough win #12, topping the host Green Devils 45-30. North Adams fell to 3-11 on the year.
Justice’s 31 points were far and away the game’s top total, even topping the entire North Adams team. The Peebles junior also hit 8 0f 9 from the foul line and as a team the Indians hit 16 of 19 for 84%.
Hanks Sparks led the Green Devils with 16.
