In their first action of the new year, the West Union Dragons got back to their winning ways as they hosted the Whiteoak Wildcats last Friday night in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play. With one win over the Wildcats earlier in the Coach Young Classic, the Dragons made that two as they rode a combined 37 points from Trenton Price and James Sellars to top the visiting Cats by a final score of 67-41.

It was a struggle early for the Dragons as they only managed a 12-9 lead after the first quarter, but exploded for 19 points in the second to open up a lead. Six of those points came from Price and nine came from Sellars as the home team moved in front 31-18 at the intermission.

Whiteoak battled back in the third period, outscoring the Dragons 16-11 to cut the margin to 42-34 after three, but that just set the stage for another fourth quarter explosion for West Union. Seven different Dragons dented the scoring column in the final eight minutes, with A.J. Frost hitting two big three-pointers, as West Union outscored their visitors 25-7 to coast to a 67-41 victory.

Three different Dragons reached double figures for the game, led by Trenton Price with 20, followed by James Sellars with 17 and A.J. Frost with 11. Dean Hall also tossed in 8 points for the winners.

For Whiteoak, Tristan Nicely led with 8 points, followed by Jason Jones with 7.

After being cancelled last night by the bitter cold weather, the Dragons face a tough non-league test in the rescheduled game tonight as they venture into Brown County to face off with a very talented Georgetown team. It doesn’t get any easier on Friday night as the Dragons will welcome the Peebles Indians to town in a key SHAC battle.
