Southern State Community College is expanding its partnership with Lindsey Wilson College to offer advanced degrees in Fayette County. Classes begin Friday, Aug. 29.
LWC will now offer accelerated bachelor of arts and master of education degrees in Mental Health Counseling and Human Development on two SSCC campuses – Central Campus in Hillsboro and Fayette Campus in Washington C.H.
In 2009, SSCC and LWC joined forces to offer LWC classes from 4-9:15 p.m. each Friday and 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. each Saturday on the Southern State site in Hillsboro. The same classes will now be offered in Washington C.H.
After students earn 60 semester hours or an associate’s degree in Human and Social Services from SSCC – or another accredited institution – they can continue their education without having to leave the region. Students in the partnership program can enroll in two LWC classes at a time, which meet for three consecutive weekends. In little more than a year, students who enroll in the program full-time can earn a B.A. degree in human services and counseling. The M.Ed. in counseling program, which leads to licensure as a professional clinical counselor, is also available through weekend on-site coursework.
Lindsey Wilson College School of Professional Counseling specializes in offering off-campus weekend face-to-face degree programs in counseling and human development. The program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs – the accrediting arm of the American Counseling Association. Lindsey Wilson has similar partnerships with community colleges in Kentucky, West Virginia and Virginia.
