The Southern Ohio Agricultural and Community Development Foundation has announced that they are offering two grants this year - one for agricultural entrepreneurs and one for students.

The Agricultural Development Competitive Grant, which has been offered in the past, is available to help with the growth of an agricultural enterprise. Those awarded the grant can receive up to 50 percent of the cost share for the planned development with a maximum of $25,000 provided by the grant.

Those interested in applying for this grant must be a tobacco program eligible producer or they must reside within the nine major counties the Foundation services and have a Farm Service Number on record with the Farm Service Agency as of July 1, 2014. Applications must include a business plan for what the grant will fund and will be accepted until Aug. 31. Applications can be picked up at the SOACDF office, the local Farm Service Agency, or online at www.soacdf.net.

The Educational Assistance Competitive Grant is the second grant offered this year. The grant will award up to $2,000 towards the cost of tuition, campus housing, lab fees, and books that can billed through the college or university for the 2014-2015 school year.

Applicants must be enrolled in the 2014-2015 school year as an undergraduate seeking a degree at an accredited institution. The student must maintain a 2.0 GPA for the school year. Eligibility is limited to those who have a Farm Service Number on record with the Farm Service Agency as of July 1, 2014 and reside in one of the nine major counties serviced by the Foundation or tobacco quota owners, quota owners/growers, or grower/tenants of FSA record in any single crop year from 1997 through 2004 and their immediate family dependents whose permanent address is within the State of Ohio.

Applications and guidelines for the grant are available at the SOACDF office, Farm Service Agencies, local Extension offices, or online at www.soacdf.net, and are due by August 31.

If you have any questions about either of these grants, please call the Foundation Office at 937-393-2700.
