The postal town meeting for Decatur has been set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 in the gym of the Decatur Community Center, located on state Route 125.
This meeting is open to the public and all those concerned with the fate of this US Post Office are encouraged to attend.
According to the public notice posted on the bulletin board at the Decatur US Post Office: “The Postal Service will hold a meeting to answer questions and provide additional information about the POST Plan. The Postal Service will not make a final decision regarding this office until after the public meeting. This will enable the Postal Service to obtain all community input and opinions, from both the surveys (sent in July to PO Box customers) and the meeting before making a final decision.”
Under the POST Plan, the Decatur U.S. Post Office hours would be reduced from eight hours weekdays to two hours per weekday. Earlier this year Decatur residents and patrons of the Decatur US Post Office petitioned USPS to keep a full-time, full service US Post Office.
