Art Show


Get out those paint brushes, dust off the camera, put on your thinking caps, design your masterpiece to get ready to enter the 32nd annual Senior Citizens Art Show/Photography/Essay/Poetry Contest sponsored by Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc.! This year’s show will be held on May 27 – May 30, and June 2 – June 6, 2014 at the Esther Allen Greer Museum and Gallery on the campus of the University of Rio Grande. The Artist’s Tea will be held on Friday, June 6 from 1 – 3 p.m. We have all the rules, regulations and entry forms at the Senior Center that you may pick up at your convenience. All entries must be in our office by April 21, 2014. Adams County has had some really BIG winners in the past and we are looking forward to more this year! New York City Trip


The Adams County Senior Citizens are planning their “New York City Red-eye Shopping & Sightseeing” trip for April 11 – 13. The pick up location will be at the Comfort Inn, Piketon, Ohio at approx. 6:30 p.m. There will be a stop at McDonald’s (on your own) en-route to New York City. The bus will be travelling through the night with restroom stops as needed every 2-3 hours. There will be a stop in New Jersey for you to change clothes and freshen-up, and you may also eat breakfast (on your own) at the McDonald’s here, or you can eat after you arrive in the city. Please be as quick as possible and considerate to fellow passengers so we can get into the city by 7:30-8 a.m. Drop off will be at 43rd & 8th Avenue, in front of the McDonald’s, two blocks from Times Square. Once you are dropped off, you are on your own to enjoy the city for shopping, sightseeing, or a matinee Broadway show. You will have approximately 13 hours in the city. Price is $130.00/person for transportation to and from New York City. Seats for this trip are limited so please contact the Senior Center as soon as possible to secure your seat.


Quilt Show


The Panhandlers Homemakers will have a quilt show featuring crafted Christmas quilts. On April 12, 2014 at the Stone Chapel Church located on Compton Hill Rd. from 1 - 4 p.m. with a bed turning at 2:30 p.m. Donations are welcome and all proceeds will go toward local cancer patients. Everyone is welcome. Please come on out, show your support.


Temporary Location Notice


Please be advised that we have moved out of the former hospital building on Wilson Drive, but unfortunately, we are not ready to move in to our new facility at this time. While our staff is still currently working from our temporary site at the former Instant Tax Service building located at 25 Willow Drive, West Union, Ohio 45693, the date is approaching when we will be able to complete our move to the former West Union Flower Shop. We will post information regarding this upcoming date as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued patience and support. Also, the current numbers for our agency will be working but only for taking messages which will be retrieved at various times daily. Otherwise, we will utilize cell phone numbers for your convenience as follows: Main Agency 937-779-7862; Secondary Agency 937-779-7909; Homecare 937-779-2081; Transportation 937-779-7375; and H.C. Billing 937-779-7373. We ask your continued patience as we will work very hard to accommodate the needs of our consumers.


Tax Preparation


AARP Tax Preparers will not be providing service in Adams County at the present time. If you need assistance, please call 937-393-4745 for the Hillsboro location and 937-378-6603 for the Georgetown location. Any further changes will be announced in the local newspapers & our senior news column.


HEAP Extended


This is for the Winter Crisis Program (or Emergency program). The deadline has now been extended from March 31st to April 15, 2014. Please contact ABCAP at 1-800-233-7891 to set up appointment or if you have questions regarding this program. There is still time to apply for the H.E.A.P. PROGRAM (Home Energy Assistance Program). This federally funded program is designed to help eligible Ohioans meet the cost of home heating this winter. Again, here at the Senior Center our emphasis is placed on reaching the elderly, 60+, homebound and/or disabled. We have applications and an Out-Reach Aide available to assist you for the State HEAP.
