June 13 and 14 have been set as the dates for the 2014 American Cancer Society Relay for Life held at the Adams County Fairgrounds. The goal for this year’s event is to raise $77,000.
2013 was a record-setting year for Adams County with a total of over $93,800 raised and the Adams County Relay for Life receiving awards for their efforts as they were 1 in 20 events across the country that reached 118% over their goals for the year.
The 2014 Adams County Relay for Life Kick-Off is set for Jan. 9 at the Church of Christ Fellowship Hall at 270 Lloyd Road, across from West Union High School. The relay team Baker’s Dozen will be serving a dinner with donations accepted at the door. The dinner begins at 5 p.m. and the menu will include beef and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, brown beans and cornbread, rolls and desserts, with tea, lemonade, and coffee being served.
The Cancer Relay for 2014 officially kicks off that night at 6:30 p.m. Sidney Michaels will open with a song and several cancer survivors will speak, including Annisa Grooms, Beth Seaman, and Sydney Davis.
Team Shear Magic Styling Salon will have Sky Lanterns with a donation and other teams will be providing items for purchase with donations. At 7:45 p.m. there will be a mass launch of sky lanterns in memory of and in support of those who have fought cancer.
In the event of inclement weather, the make-up date for the 2014 Kick-Off will be Jan. 23
