The Adams County Sheriff’s Office received an anonymous tip on Friday, June 27, about a possible homicide.
Sheriff’s Deputies, Ohio State Patrol, and Manchester Police responded to 3485 Island Creek Road in Monroe Township at 4:10 p.m. to find Charles “Duke” Brewer, 60, dead in his home from gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigation quickly led to the arrest of Roddy Shane Tolle, 42, who is homeless, at 4:34 p.m. at 2126 Germany Hill Road. He was charged with Murder and Having Weapons Under Disability (Drugs or Alcohol Dependent).
In addition to the current charges, a Mason County grand jury indicted Tolle on Friday, June 27, for two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, one count of leaving the scene/failure to render aid, and one count of first-degree fleeing/evading police.
Tolle is a former Manchester Township Trustee, who served from Jan. 1, 2000 to Dec. 31, 2007. Tolle was previously arrested in Adams County on June 3, 2010 on charges of second and third-degree Robbery, third-degree Felonious Assault, and fourth-degree Theft. He subsequently pleaded guilty to one count of Robbery and the other charges were dismissed.
The Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation of the murder of Charles “Duke” Brewer, and states the murder was likely the result of an argument between the two men earlier that day.
