The Jefferson Township Fire Department responded to a reported fire 9:30 a.m. on July 14 in a mobile home at 10880 state Route 781.
The fire near the intersection of state Route 348 and state Route 781 was under control in less than an hour after arrival. However, the structure and belongings were a complete loss. Mutual aid in battling the fire was given by West Union Life Squad, West Union Fire Department, and the Peebles Fire Department.
The property belongs to George Abbot of West Union, who was renting the property to John Barett of Peebles.
After an investigation of the fire, Fire Marshal Chris Kessinger of the Jefferson Township Fire Department determined the cause of the fire to be arson. The Jefferson Township Fire Department is asking the community for assistance from anyone with information on the fire or who witnessed the fire.
The Fire Marshal is investigating several leads at this time and the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office will be placing a Blue Ribbon release out in the upcoming days offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fire.
