HIGGINSPORT — Ohio Department of Natural Resources confirmed the report of a body recovered from the Ohio River is one of two teen boys from Troy who have been missing since late Saturday.

According to ODNR spokesperson Eileen Corson, the Brown County Coroner was called to the scene around 2 p.m. Friday of a report of a body found nearly 8 miles from where Marty Stanaford, 19, and Cameron Buerger, 20, launched their canoe Saturday evening.

Corson said the body was found by a member of a volunteer search party on a jet ski.

No other details are available at this time.

The canoe has not yet been found. It is a green, 15-foot Old Towne brand canoe with the identification OH-1599-ZK.

Stanaford, Buerger, and their friend, Paige Terry, were visiting a home owned by Buerger’s family just outside of Higginsport, on the weekend. Terry did not venture out into the canoe with the two men on Saturday evening.

Authorities say there were sightings of the men traveling upstream, paddling toward the Kentucky side of the river. That correlates with Terry’s story, which claimed that her two friends made it across the river to Kentucky and had contacted her later that evening.

The only article that has been retrieved that belong to the pair was a cooler that was found near the Meldahl Locks and Dam. The cooler was found more than 15 miles away from where the two launched their canoe.
