A Bainbridge man is being held in the Fayette County Jail on a $7,000 bond after allegedly walking in the middle of Eyman Park Drive Saturday while in possession of heroin.

Gary W. Goddard, 31, is facing charges of possession of heroin, a felony of the fifth degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

At around 3:51 p.m. Saturday, Washington C.H. Police Department officers were dispatched to Eyman Park Drive on a call of a suspicious male who was walking in the middle of the roadway. As an officer parked on the roadway and approached the man, the suspect later identified as Goddard quickly walked to a water fountain near the park, reports said.

“The male then bent down on the other side of the water fountain for a few seconds, then quickly stood and casually walked over to meet with me,” the officer said.

Goddard allegedly told the officer that he was walking in the middle of the road because he was singing. Although he did not have identification with him, he was able to provide his name, date of birth and social security number, according to police.

After the officer requested a warrant check, it was found that Goddard had an active bench warrant for failure to appear. He was then placed under arrest.

Goddard told the officer that he had a spoon in his pocket. While patting him down, the officer located a syringe cap and a spoon with white residue on it, reports said. Another officer checked around the water fountain where Goddard had been earlier and located a small bag of suspected heroin on the ground. It later field tested positive as heroin.

Goddard was taken to the Fayette County Jail and was incarcerated.
