The Adams County Libraries hosted numerous events throughout the county on Thursday, June 18, for people of all ages.

The VA Mobile Health Van stopped by at the Peebles Library informing veterans of healthcare and burial benefits available to them. The van operates throughout the tri-state region going as far south as Georgetown, Kentucky and as far west as Metamora, Ind., allowing veterans a place to have a quick physical and learn or enroll in medical benefits.

“In rural areas it’s hard to get the word out about the van,” said Mike Hankins, the mobile unit coordinator and a 12-year veteran of the Air Force. “But we’ve helped almost 2,000 veterans and enrolled more than 500 just this year alone all for no charge.”

The van is open to any veteran with their DD214.

Future area dates for the van are at the Mount Orab Kroger 1 to 4 p.m., June 19; the Adams County Fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., July 14; the Anti Farm Fair in Georgetown, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Aug. 14 and 15; the Peebles Library from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 20; the Ripley Rural Heritage Festival from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Aug. 21 and 22; and back at the Peebles Library again from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 17.

The West Union Library also hosted an event where children could create their own superhero masks, going along with the library’s superhero theme for their summer reading program. Numerous children from throughout the area stopped by to cut out and customize their own unique superhero mask.
