OLIVER TOWNSHIP - An 11-year-old Adams County boy died Saturday, from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car at the intersection of Wheat Ridge and Murphin Ridge roads on Friday afternoon. Services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. for David Ray Miller, son of Alan and Sara Sue (Mast) Miller, of the Amish Community.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:19 p.m. on Nov. 13 when Miller rode a non-motorized scooter across Wheat Ridge Road from the north side of the road to the south, according to a report by the Georgetown Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. As Miller crossed the roadway, Timothy W. McKee, Jr., 20, of Manchester, allegedly approached the intersection traveling northwest on Wheat Ridge Road in a 1993 Mercury Topaz.
The preliminary investigation by the post indicates that McKee braked after observing the scooter cross the roadway and lost control of the vehicle, driving off the left side of the road and striking the scooter.
Miller suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was transported by Seaman Life Squad to Adams County Regional Medical Center and later transported via University Air Care to Cincinnati Children's Hospital.
McKee's vehicle was occupied by three passengers: Toby T. Myers, 32, of Manchester; William A. Rosstine, 62, of West Union and Connie R. Myers, 48, of Manchester. No injuries were reported by McKee or his passengers.
The crash remains under investigation by the OSHP.
In 2008, the Miller family was traveling in their horse and buggy near their home on Wheat Ridge Road, when it was struck head-on by a motorist. According to Trooper Donald Edgington, who investigated that crash, visibility was not a problem.
The Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home, Lewis-Sullivan Chapel in Seaman is serving the family. For more information, please see page A3 of today's edition of The People's Defender.
