Stiff competition in city council races

Editor's note: The following information was taken with 35 of Adams County's 35 precincts reporting as of press time and is an unofficial count. The official final statewide results are expected to be certified on Nov. 18.

In the race for city council members, early returns showed big leads throughout the board. Each village - Cherry Fork, Manchester, Peebles, Seaman, West Union and Winchester - was to elect four council members. In addition, a board of public Affairs member was to be voted in for Manchester Village, and a village treasurer was to be voted in for West Union Village.

As of press time, the following results reflected the unofficial final tally of 35 of Adams County's 35 precincts, excluding write-in totals:

Cherry Fork Village - Chad R. Shelton, with 25 complimentary votes for 100 percent of the votes.

Manchester Village - Roy Carpenter, with 299 votes for 25.78 percent of the votes; Bryan L. Church, with 218 votes for 18.79 percent of the votes; Kelly Hackathorn Morgan, with 151 votes for 13.02 percent of the votes; Noah Schiltz, with 175 votes for 15.09 percent of the votes; Jeffry Everett Well, with 260 votes for 22.41 percent of the votes; Robert Harris, with 57 votes for 4.91 percent of the votes and Deborah K. Clinger (Board of Public Affairs), with 271 complimentary votes for 100 percent of the votes.

Peebles Village - Michael D. Estep, with 115 votes for 8.22 percent of the votes; Tammy L. Hoop Crothers, with 155 votes for 11.08 percent of the votes; Eugenia M. Gordley, with 244 votes for 17.44 percent of the votes; Steven J. Hively, with 135 votes for 9.65 percent of the votes; Heath Robinson, with 86 votes for 6.15 percent of the votes; Wayne Setty, with 187 votes for 13.37 percent of the votes; Larry D. Shiveley, with 243 votes for 17.37 percent of the votes; and Bob Wallace, with 234 votes for 16.73 percent of the votes.

Rome Village - No candidates filed.

Seaman Village - Tammy Adkins, with 97 votes for 12.09 percent of the votes; David W. Hughes, with 167 votes for 20.82 percent of the votes; Matthew Kirk, with 48 votes for 5.99 percent of the votes; David Merfert, with 106 votes for 13.22 percent of the votes; William L. Shelby, with 137 votes for 17.08 percent of the votes; Leigh Ann Sims, with 160 votes for 19.95 percent of the votes; and Nicole Wilson, with 87 votes for 10.85 percent of the votes.

West Union Village - Randy Brewer, with 442 votes for 24.56 percent of the votes; Jason Buda, with 352 votes for 19.56 percent of the votes; Neil Morrison, with 322 votes for 17.89 percent of the votes; Charles L. Purtee, with 265 votes for 14.72 percent of the votes; Stephen D. Rothwell, with 419 votes for 23.28 percent of the votes; and Shelley Gifford (Treasurer), with 560 complimentary votes for 100 percent of the votes.

Winchester Village - Wayne Edingfield, with 187 votes for 26.26 percent of the votes; Kenneth R. Roades, with 179 votes for 25.14 percent of the votes; Jana Darceen Swartz, with 152 votes for 21.35 percent of the votes; and Sheryl L. Young, with 194 votes for 27.25 percent of the votes.
