With the regular season in the rear view mirror, it was time for the girls’ golfers of Adams County to jump into postseason play. On Monday, Sept. 25, the ladies from West Union, North Adams, and Peebles ventured to the Jaycees Golf Course in Chillicothe for the 18-hole Southeast District Division II Sectional Tournament. In sectional action, the top six teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams advance to district competition, and it will be the West Union Lady Dragons who will be taking up the clubs at lease one more time.
The Lady Dragons earned that spot in the district tournament next week by finishing second overall in the Div. II sectional behind a very strong Waterford squad. Waterford outdistanced West Union in stroke total, 329-377, so the Lady Dragons will have their work cut out to get past the districts where just one team and one individual will move on to the state competition.
On Monday, the Lady Dragons were paced by juniors DeAnna Caraway and Alex Clark, both of whom shot 91 for the day, both hitting 47 on the front nine and 44 on the back nine. Very close behind that pair was junior Lindsey Daniel, with a 47 on the front and 45 on the back, for a 92 total. Junior Lucy Kersey shot a 103, carding 51 on the front on 52 on the back, while sophomore Madison Fulton came in at 115 (59-56).
Also competing in the Div. II section were the North Adams Lady Devils, who put five freshmen on the course, and their low scorer on the day was Brooklyn Tolle at 109 (55-54). Also competing for North Adams were Jesse Crawford at 126 (64-62), and three golfers at 127-Jacklyn Humphrey (65-62), Madison Humphrey (61-66), and Larissa Clift.
