The high school soccer seasons are lurking right around the corner and Coach Kevin Hunter and his West Union Lady Dragons got in a pre-season tuneup on Saturday, July 22 as they hosted a three-team shootout, welcoming in the Peebles Lady Indians and the Eastern Lady Warriors.
The Lady Dragons did not have a full squad available on Saturday, but according to Coach Hunter, it was his best turnout of the summer, and the day’s first contest matched up West Union and Peebles in two 25-minute halves with water breaks to combat the heat. The Lady Dragons got goals from Emilee Davis and Heidi Hunter, but it was Peebles prevailing 5-2.

The middle match up of the Lady Dragons Soccer Shootout saw Peebles facing off with Eastern Brown, with Eastern taking the 4-3 win in the two 25-minute halves.

“I thought our girls played great against Peebles, they fought hard and passed the ball well,” said Coach Hunter. “We have a lot of freshmen and new players on the team this year which is a good problem to have, plus both the other teams here today had 16-18 player available.”
The second game of the day saw Eastern Brown nip Peebles 4-3,which set up the final battle of the day, where the Lady Warriors got four goals from Morgan Reynolds to roll by West Union 7-0.
“Even with a loss, our girls had ample opportunity to work on their touches and we have time to become a more cohesive unit before we see these two teams later in league play,” said Hunter.
“The Lady Dragons show promise for this season like never before. We have a great group of solid soccer players, that are fast and vicious. We will continue to break school records and make this an exciting season for West Union soccer.”
