JV Lady Devils pick up eighth win, topping Peebles 46-24

Monday, Jan. 4 saw Coach Tony Williams and his North Adams Lady Devils JV squad playing host to the Peebles Lady Indians and turning in another solid performance as they led wire-to-wire in improving their record to 8-3 on the season, downing the visiting Lady Indians 46-24.

“Tonight was another solid win for us,” said Coach Williams. “Our defensive pressure set the tone early and allowed us to get some quick scores.”

The Lady Devils jumped out to that early lead, powered by their usual balanced scoring attack, with seven different girls scoring in a first quarter that ended with North Adams on top 16-4.

In the second period, it was the Lady Devils’ Brooklyn Wylie taking over on offense, scoring 7 of the team’s 9 points. Jerilin Toller fired in a three-pointer for the Lady Indians, one of her three for the game, but at the half, Peebles was staring at a big 25-9 deficit.

In the third quarter, the Lady Devils doubled up on their visitors, 10-5, getting a pair of baskets from Abbi Stacy and in the final period, despite three-pointers by Toller and Anna Kremin for Peebles, the Lady Devils outscored the Lady Indians 11-10 to claim the 46-24 win.

Of the nine North Adams girls who scored in the win, the leader was Brooklyn Wylie with 9 points, followed closely by Abbi Stacy and McKayla Raines with 8 apiece. Charlee Louden added 6 in the winning effort.

“McKayla Raines came off the bench and played a nice game for us, getting several rebounds and put back baskets,” said Williams. “Brooklyn Wylie had another solid game and Abbi Stacy gave us some very good minutes.”

For Peebles, Jerilin Toller led the way with 9 points, all of them coming on a trio of three-point baskets. Katelyn Willey added 8 and Anna Kremin 6, with Kremin nailing a pair of three-point goals. Of the 24 Peebles points, 15 came from beyond the arc.
