JH Lady Devils helping the needy

One of the many local community service projects this holiday season involved the seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams from North Adams Junior High.

“Every year we look to get our junior high teams involved in helping out the community,” said seventh grade girls coach Shannon Staggs. “Coach Taylor Jodrey and myself decided to have our girls help out with the goal of collecting over 100 coats for needy families.”

The girls exceeded their goal as they were able to collect and donate over 120 coats and raise over 200 items for families in need this Christmas. The girls delivered their items to the old Jefferson Gym in Blue Creek on Dec. 13.

“Watching the girls helping out in carrying items to the family’s cars and watching them wrapping toys for kids was a great honor for our basketball program,” added Staggs. “We were able to teach the girls how to appreciate what they have and not to think about what they don’t have. No matter how our basketball seasons turn out, this was the highlight of our season.”

The North Adams junior high girls basketball teams and Coaches Taylor Jodrey and Shannon Staggs recently helped with a coat drive that gave over 120 coats to families in need in the area.
