WUHS Beta Club hosts ‘Haunted Hallway’

The Halloween celebrations at West Union High School spooked the world on Friday, Oct. 30. The members of the WUHS Beta Club stayed after school for three weeks to prepare for their first annual “Haunted Hallway.” The Beta Club members decorated the downstairs hallway of the high school to look like various rooms from a horror film.

The first room that patrons walked in to was Ms. Tess Holloway’s eerie laboratory. In the room, Ms. Holloway, the mad scientist, greeted students with a beaker of slime and student actor, Austin DeMint, who looked like a dead body, scared passersby when he jumped from his cadaver table.

Next, patrons were locked in a small space with no light. Student actors Logan Clifford and Trace Brown scared the patrons with their ghoulish face paint and screams. From there, patrons were escorted into a creepy playhouse full of dismembered dolls and three dolls that have come to life to prey upon their humans. Student actors Taylor Grooms, Hunter Jones, and Miley Smith played the dolls that came to life.

Just when the patrons couldn’t take any more, they were led into the Bloody Butcher Shop. There, student actors Hannah Hill, Zach Sentney, and Kristin Unger performed a mock autopsy, complete with all of the basic parts of the human anatomy. Patrons followed the pleasant music of a circus, only to find hideously terrifying clowns that stalked them throughout the room. Student actors Tyler Fowler, Sarah White, and MacKenzie Smith spared no expense to make sure that this was not the circus of your childhood, this was a circus that no one would forget.

Last but not least, the students were led into the most horrifyingly shocking room of all. The bloodcurdling screams and the constant beating came from the unnerving asylum. In this room, student actors Mac Wilson, Madeline Sanders, Alicia Harmon, Christa Williams, Haley Knauff, and Brandi Taylor offered a very chilling interpretation of the old “insane asylums.” The patients in this hospital were not very pleased and had lots of unfinished business.

When the patrons left the Haunted Hallway, they enjoyed a sweet treat sold by Kendall Gallowitz, Daisee Young, Tyler Swearingen, and Julia Tackett. Students then danced the night away at the Halloween dance where all costumes were welcome. The Beta Club will use the funds from this event to help pay for the National Convention in the spring.
