WUHS Steel Drum Band in concert

The West Union High School steel drum band recently performed for the Adams County Art Council at the Presbyterian Church in West Union. Each year, the Art Council selects one group for the entertainment portion of their meeting. The students were selected for this honor based on their talent and fresh presentation of their art form.

The steel drum band is arranged similar to a choir. The instruments in the steel drum represent the soprano, tenor, and bass sections of instruments. The students performed a multicultural set list including everything from Cuban and Brazilian beats to the modern day Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars. The steel drum band does not have a major competition, however, they travel multiple places to perform. Past performances of the steel drum band have been at Moyer’s Winery, downtown Disney World in Florida, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

The band is directed by Mr. Carl Scheider and his assistant, Mr. Neil DeAtley. The members of the steel drum band are: Hannah Hill, Tyler Fowler, MacKenzie Smith, Sarah White, Matthew Grooms, Rayanna McFarland, Julia Tackett, Josie Parker, Coal McClanahan, Shruti Nayak, Brittany Boldman, Lindsay Daniel, Nathan Music, Jack Crask, Cassidy Price, Andrew Sapp, Daniel Lewis, Carson McFarland, Skylar Johnson, Jessica Silhavy, Marcus Jacobs, Dakota Nehus, and Cody Thornberry.
