McCarty changes his plea

Former Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy, Jeff McCarty has admitted that he is guilty of drugging and performing a sexual act on a 15 year old minor.

McCarty pleaded guilty Thursday, Sept. 24 to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. Prosecutors say they will push for the maximum sentence.

The young girl’s grandfather told WCPO Channel 9 News that McCarty, “should be held to a higher accountability than anyone else. He’s sworn to serve and protect. My granddaughter is sentenced to life with this – I blame myself for letting (McCarty) breathe.”

The grand jury has also indicted him on an additional count of rape, two counts of sexual battery, and two counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

McCarty will be sentenced on Oct. 26. He could receive a maximum sentence of five years.

McCarty was with the Adams County Sheriff’s department for 26 years. He resigned from the Sheriff’s Office after his arrest. He has been in jail since that time under a $100,000 bond.
