West Union Lady Dragons claim the 2015 Adams County Cup

The Girls Adams County Cup was held last week at the Adams County Country Club featuring female golfers from West Union, Peebles and North Adams.

West Union comfortably won the outing with a team score of 176. North Adams came in second with a team score of 226 while Peebles brought up the rear finishing with a score of 239.

The All-County Team featured five girls from West Union, DeAnna Caraway, Rayanna McFarland, Alex Clark, MacKenzie Smith and Lucy Kersey and one from Peebles, Savannah McCoy.

Top scores for the nine-hole tournament went to Caraway and McFarland who both shot 42. Clark was on their heels shooting a 43. McCoy had the top score for Peebles shooting a 46 and KyLee Applegate shot a team-best 50 for North Adams.

Caraway scored the best round of the tournament with her ability to avoid a high-scoring hole. Caraway was the only one on the West Union team to avoid a score of seven or higher on any hole throughout the round, and only had one hole with six stokes.

Other scores for West Union included Smith (48), Kersey (49), Lindsey Daniel (50), Sarah White (54) and Julia Tackett (58).

In addition to Applegate’s 50, the rest of the North Adams scores were Jade Springs (56), Caitlyn Young (59), Erin Newman (61) and Amber Geislin (92.)

And in addition to McCoy’s 46, the rest of the Peebles scores were Nicole Burns (60), Josey Scott (64) and Eliza Tipton (69).

The next event for the West Union girl’s golf team will be against Clermont Northeastern at the Cedar Trace course on Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. before the sectional tournament which will be held at Upper Lansdowne on Sept. 28.
