Lady Devils host soccer camp

The first week of June saw a number of young ladies gather at North Adams High School for the 2015 Lady Devils Soccer Camp. The camp ran from June 6-8 and like all other outdoor activities this summer, had its own issues with the weather. The first two days of the camp were held on the NAHS soccer field but the last day was forced indoors as heavy rains moved the production to the gymnasium at North Adams Elementary for an extended session.

“We did this camp last year and the varsity players were all looking forward to doing it again this year,” said North Adams girls head soccer coach Dave D’Avignon. “They all enjoy working with the younger players.”

Nine girls participated in the camp, all of whom will be starting grades one through six this fall. There were 10 varsity players on hand to assist and each camper was given a varsity player who worked with her throughout the camp. In the camp, the young girls worked on basic soccer skills and drills and played a few games. Each camper received her own soccer ball and t-shirt.

“It’s a win-win soccer camp,” added D’Avignon. “The campers have fun and learn about the game and the varsity players get to give back to their community and their sport.”

The youngsters who took part in the camp were Sydney Figgins, Morgan Kell, Emmy Holt, Haylee Arthur, Tatum Grooms, Jaylynn Collett, Hunter Grooms, Angelica Planck, and Ainsley Grooms. High school staffers were Taylor Wylie, Shy Burns, Cati Butler, Brandi Waits, Madee Shipley, Brooklyn Wylie, Abby Shupert, Jordyn Kell, Allison Harper, and Kitasha Mesmer.

“Everyone, the little girls, the big girls, and the Coach, had a good time,” said D’Avignon.
